Piano/Keyboard Lessons
We offer lessons for students of all ages and abilities from beginners to very advanced students. Our teachers teach classical to rock/pop. Some want to be serious competitors and some wish to play just for fun. We try to inspire the students upward and seek the approach and goals that create excitement and direction for the student. As we have several many piano teachers on staff, we are able to match students with a teacher that works best with their particular age, ability and interest.
If the interest and maturity are strong, private lessons can start piano can begin as young as age 5.
Our piano lessons are 30 or 45 minutes in length. In most cases, parents are most welcome to sit in on their child’s lessons. For our advanced piano students we have teachers with advanced degrees (master and doctorate) in music who can prepare them for university entrance.
Voice Lessons
Students can sing many styles of music…from their favorite artists to classical arias. Our voice teachers all have performance and acting backgrounds as well. Our instructors help students learn to breathe properly, increase their range, sing with proper pitch and projection, and develop stage presence. We offer at least five recital opportunities each year and encourage participation in school and other civic talent shows and programs.
Guitar Lessons
Our private guitar lessons include both acoustic and electric guitar. We have excellent guitar teaching staff that can teach blues to rock and pop. Several teachers actively perform in bands. Guitar lessons at our schools are enhanced by (1) learning how to do simple improvisation and (2), having the opportunity of learning how to jam with other musicians in a band setting or perform solo in one of our recitals. Typically a student would be 10 years old before starting guitar lessons, due to their hand size, but some younger students start with a junior sized guitar.
Flute Lessons
Our private flute lessons generally start at age 7 and older, but sometimes younger students will start with a special curved-head flute.
Percussion
Percussion instruction is provided for all levels, from the beginner to the professional. Elementary and secondary students playing in school bands will find that private percussion lesson will augment their school studies, usually taking them to the top of their class. Lessons focus on establishing good technique, music reading, and musicality. Those in class lessons have the added benefit of learning and playing together in a musical ensemble.
Violin, Viola
We can begin students as early as age 5 yr. With the many strings programs available in the Topeka area, your student will find private lessons the perfect way to excel in the school classes.
Cello Lessons
Our private cello lessons start as young as age 5. We highly encourage a parent to sit in on the lesson to help the student at home with things such as posture and hand positioning.
Saxophone and Clarinet Lessons
Our private saxophone and clarinet lessons start from age 8 onwards. Earlier than age 8, a student typically does not have the lung capacity and strength to handle these instruments. Our saxophone and clarinet instructors are proficient on both instruments so a student can start with clarinet lessons if they wish and switch to saxophone lessons without having to change instructors.
Trombone Lessons
Students wishing to take trombone lessons should be at least in the 4th or 5th grade. These are the grades when most schools begin to offer band programs, which is a great compliment to private trombone lessons. Also, by this grade, most students have arms long enough to reach the playing positions.
